Participation at General Meetings and in Sub-groups

All members are contractually obliged to participate in the co-operative. All members control Hamwic democratically by participating at monthly General Meetings (about 1 hour / calendar month). And all members are actively involved in the running and management of the co-operative through Sub-groups (minimum 1 hour / calendar month. Some members do much more).

These two key obligations ensure the co-operative manages its housing stock effectively and that decisions reflect the general will of the membership. Without member participation the co-operative can not run effectively.

It is not acceptable to join the co-operative and do nothing. This is a breach of membership and will result in loss of membership. No person can be a tenant without being a member, and Hamwic can only house members. If a member loses their membership, they lose their housing.

Co-operative decisions are democratically taken at monthly General Meetings.

Applicants will be asked at interview which Sub-group/s they will join. If the applicant is ratified to membership they will contact the Group Officer/s to join the group/s.

Hamwic Sub-groups are:

  1. Rent
  2. Meetings
  3. Housing
  4. Grievance
  5. Environment
  6. Development
  7. Secretary
  8. Treasurer
